No Bush left behind

By Michael J.W. Stickings

So you think the whole No Child Left Behind sham is really about helping children? Or about improving public education? Think again. Here's the L.A. Times:

A company headed by President Bush's brother and partly owned by his parents is benefiting from Republican connections and federal dollars targeted for economically disadvantaged students under the No Child Left Behind Act.

With investments from his parents, George H.W. and Barbara Bush, and other backers, Neil Bush's company, Ignite! Learning, has placed its products in 40 U.S. school districts and now plans to market internationally.

Bushies helping Bushies. Bushies profiting off the policies and programs of other Bushies. Here's it's all in the family. Whether it's oil or defence or health care or education or any other exploitable industry, this is how it works for them. Their profiteering knows no bounds, they all get richer, and Americans get screwed.

  • Bushies have a knack for naming their Acts, don't they? Like the No Child Left Behind, for example.

Yet... Each name is just sufficienly "off" to left itself open to mockery. A commenter on the Carpetbagger Report refers to it as "No Child Left with a Mind". When I heard of Bush's re-draft of the Clean Air Act (something with empty skies in it?), my gut reaction was "No Tree Left Behind". Etc, etc, etc...

The packaging is good, but there's no truth in the advertising.

PS. Carpetbagger's "orange" as the ID is easier by far :) Gimme a break -- I'm 57! How am I to read this swirling pool of letters???
